Where exactly is he? (Mark it on the map).

What is his physical condition? (Is he using pills against malaria, has any unhealed wounds).

Check whether the vehicle of the travel company used for traveling is in working order and the fuel tank is full (vehicle malfunctions will leave you out in the wilderness).
bullet.gif If you are leaving for a place such as a desert/jungle, make sure you have a two-way radio or GPS (there were a few cases of disorientation of locals).
bullet.gif When attempting challenge sports, ensure that you are using a good company, even if the price is higher (backpackers are asked to sign many documents that leave the company exempt of any liability in case of an accident).
bullet.gif Update other travelers of your route or trek and indicate the name of the company and duration of the trek.
bullet.gif Determine communication procedures - time and means, such as phone, e-mail, messenger etc.
bullet.gif Update parents if going on a trek which might continue longer than expected or might have other communication problems in order to avoid tension and fear
